Edward A. Zunino

September 9, 1949 - May 12, 2017 West Grove, PA | Age 67 Loving Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend

Edward A. Zunino, 67, of West Grove, PA, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on May 12, 2017. He was the husband of Lois McGinnis-Zunino, with whom he shared 22 wonderful years of marriage.

Born in West Grove, PA, he was a son of Mary Daddario Zunino of Avondale and the late Angelo J. Zunino. Ed attended St. Patrick’s School, Kennett High School and the Delaware County Police Academy.

After completing his education, Ed began his police career in his hometown in 1974. Due to his hard work ethic and dedication to the community, he rose through the ranks – auxiliary officer, part-time officer, patrol officer, Detective, Lieutenant, and ultimately Chief of Police in Kennett Square. Ed retired in July of 2016 after 42 years of service for the Borough of Kennett Square.

When Ed wasn’t serving in his official capacity, he was an avid bow-hunter. First and foremost he loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and other family and friends. Ocean City, NJ was a special place Ed enjoyed visiting ever since childhood. He was also an active member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in West Grove, PA.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his children, Michelle Tuel (Ricky), Jennifer Zunino-Smith (Chris), Edward A. Zunino, Jr; his grandchildren, Joseph Tuel, Jack Tuel, Noah Zunino; his brothers, Thomas (Kathy) and David (Diane); his sister, Patricia Quynn (Norman); his brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Doris Brosius; his mother-in-law, Nellie McGinnis; and many special nieces and nephews.

The Zunino family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Dennis Berman, the nurses and office staff of Abramson Cancer Center, their dedicated hospice nurse, Lisa D’Ascenzo and aide, Linda Washington, for their compassion and care during Ed’s time of need.

You are invited to visit with Ed’s family and friends from 2-4PM and 7-9PM on Thursday, May 18th, 2017 at Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home (610-444-4116) 250 West State Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348 and from 9:30AM – 10:45AM Friday May 19th at Assumption BVM Catholic Church 300 State Rd. West Grove, PA 19390. His Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11AM. Interment will be in Longwood Cemetery in Kennett Square. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ed’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105. Guestbook

  1. I was a schoolmate and friend of Eddie from first grade until my family moved to California in 1965. I would walk to his house from Lafayette St., and we would goof around until dark most of the time. It surprises me not the career he chose. He was that kind of person, as evidenced from what I’ve read here. Although we’ve had no contact in the 50+ years since I left, I still feel a certain connection as though he is watching me now. Only time will tell, but for now, Ed, rest in peace.

  2. Lois,

I feel your pain, Carl will be gone 4 years the 27th.

  5. Lois and family, Ed and I grew up a field apart. I watch as he rose through the ranks to be Chief. I called him Chief one day and he told me we had been friends all our lives and he was Ed. He was a gentleman always. He will be so missed. I am glad he is getting the turnout he deserves today and yesterday. We all have wonderful memories of this incredible man. I wish you peace and prayers.

  6. Lois and Family,
I am saddened by the passing of such a great person as Ed. As lifelong residents there are so many things to remember that listing them would be impossible. I never had the pleasure of working for Ed, although he did offer me a position twice after retirement. I did not want to take the job and then decide it was not something I would enjoy and then have to leave and let Ed down. I remember seeing him at Little League when I was the Vets manager and “little Eddie” played for me. Always pleasant and Eddie was just as pleasant to coach. This community is a much better place because of the mark that Ed left on it. I will always appreciate the invitation to his retirement party and it will be the lasting remembrance of Ed on a happy note. Our deepest sympathy.

  15. So sorry for your loss of this wonderful man. There are many stories I could yell about Ed and how wonderfully great he was or just to show the silly side of him.
But the best thing I can share about him is he always had a special love for life and all who came in to his life he shared that with them as well.
My heart goes out to all those in the Zunino family and I am sending lots of love and prayers to you as well.

  17. Lois and the Zunino Family,
Knowing Ed going back to the day of his father mushroom farm I knew Ed as a good person coming from a good family.
Later on I was fortunate to work with Ed several times during St. Mary’s Spaghetti Supper making sauce and cooking meatballs.
When I walked away from those afternoons I was truly amazed what a nice person he was. Very soft spoken, and a caring person.
I enjoyed my time with him and when ever our paths crossed he always had time to talk and ask how mom was doing.
Ed work is finished here on earth and we all know he is in heaven with his father today. Thanks Ed for all the good work you have done.

  18. Rest in Peace to a beautiful soul. To Lois and all of Ed’s family, there are so many people praying for you. Lois and Ed were there for me when I lost my husband, and I will always be grateful for that. Even when Ed was sick, he insisted that the three of us go to out to dinner. That is the kind of person Ed was, and Lois too. I know there are so many people that greeted you in Heaven, and I know that Michael was one of them. Love you Lois.

  19. Lois and Family,
I am so sorry to hear of Eddie’s passing. He was one of the nicest people I have ever known, he always had time to speak and talk with you no matter how busy he was and he was always so interested in how things were going for you. I can remember our Drivers Ed classes together in high school. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him but the memories will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with you and his family. Please feel free to contact me if you need anything at all or just to talk. May he rest in peace.

  20. Thank you for sharing Ed with the Kennett Square Community. Knowing him for only a short time earlier in his police career, I remember him as a person who was proud of the work he did and always interested in improving things. I’m glad to read of his success as Chief of Police and hope that his life and legacy will be long remembered by those who knew him personally and professionally.

  21. Dear Lois and Family,
My heart is heavy with Eds loss. I never had a brother and Eddie was that brother. The times we spent in school and after we graduated
are priceless! The time we spent together will never be forgotten. The time he spent with my parents after I moved to N.J. are the trait of a Good Man! Thank you Ed jr. for your work at my parents house. God Bless all the Zunino’s. Life will continue but you will never be Forgotten my Friend. Rest in Peace Eddie!
