February 9, 2019 Oxford, PA Loved her family, friends and the New Jersey shore

DORIS  P.  CARSTENS, age 82, of Oxford, PA, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at her residence, surrounded by her family.  She was the wife of Franklin J. “Joe” Carstens, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage.

Born in South River, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Peter Sack and the late Mary Zwolinski Sack.

She had worked for 10 years as a part time secretary at the Southern Chester County Chamber of Commerce in Kennett Square, PA.  She was also previously employed at Johnson & Johnson Personal Products in New Brunswick, NJ.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kennett Square, PA, and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Absecon, NJ.

Doris’ favorite activities included being with her family and friends, especially her more recent time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She loved going to the shore in Ocean City, NJ where she and her husband had a summer home.  She loved sitting and visiting with friends and neighbors on the beach, and enjoyed the beauty and relaxed atmosphere there.

The family would like to thank the support staff and caregivers from Ware Presbyterian Village, the PRN Staffing caregivers and nurses, and the Willow Tree hospice staff for the care and compassion they gave to Doris, especially over this past year.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Karen Flad and her husband David of Lincoln University, PA; two sons, Joseph P. Carstens and his wife Krista of Downingtown, PA and David B. Carstens and his wife Sharon of Raleigh, NC; one sister, Laverne Sack of Myrtle Beach, SC; seven grandchildren, Brian M. Flad of Philadelphia, PA, Stephanie Sibley and her husband Andrew of Phoenixville, PA, Michelle Leisenring and her husband Michael of Downingtown, PA, Matthew Carstens of Downingtown, PA, Eric D. Carstens and his wife Anna of Dunkirk, MD, Morgan W. Carstens of Raleigh, NC and Haley E. Carstens, Raleigh, NC and three great grandchildren

She was predeceased by one sister, Arlene Santo Salvo of Scotch Plains, NJ, and one grandson, Kevin Flad of Lincoln University, PA.

You are invited to visit with her family and friend from 11:00 to 11:45AM on Friday morning, February 15, 2019 at Church of the Sacred Heart, 203 Church Road, Oxford, PA.  Her Funeral Mass will follow at 12:00PM. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Kennett Square, PA.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to Willow Tree Hospice, 616 E. Cypress Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348
