Peg Trotter Sites

March 1, 1922 - June 26, 2019 West Brandywine, PA | Age 97 Pretzel Queen

Peg passed away on June 26, 2019 at Freedom Village in West Brandywine, PA.  Peg was a wonderful wife and beloved mother of 16 children, 42 grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren.  Peg was married to the love of her life, Thomas James Trotter in 1940.  They settled in Hatfield, PA with their family and started their business, Trotter Soft Pretzels that supplied pretzels to Catholic Schools in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties.  As their family started to grow, they moved to Fort Washington, PA.  Devoted Catholics, they became members of Saint Genevieve Parish.  Peg and Tom loved being on their boat, “Crow’s Nest” with their children.  Peg lost Tom in 1977 along with her fifteen-year-old son Charlie in a tragic plane accident.  She also lost her son, Mark, at age 36 to cancer.

Peg married William “Bill” Sites in 1985.  They moved to Chestertown and ran the Lauretum Inn, a bed and breakfast.  Peg and Bill continued to enjoy boating on the Chesapeake Bay.  They moved to Jenner’s Pond in West Grove and then to Freedom Village in Brandywine in September 2017.  Peg and Bill were married 35 years until his passing in January 2018.  Peg went on to enjoy her family and friends at Freedom Village.  Peg loved and was loved by her family and will be deeply missed.  The gratitude of those whose lives she created and touched is immeasurable.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, July 27th at 10 am at Assumption BVM Church followed by a 12:30 pm luncheon at Freedom Village, 15 Freedom Blvd., West Brandywine, PA.  Interment will be held privately at a later date at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Philadelphia.

  1. I was so sorry to hear of Aunt Pegs passing. Our dad, would often talk of Aunt Peg and her pretzels. I pray that the family can find comfort in the many memories they shared with Peg as well as the soothing words of the scriptures. “When anxieties overwhelmed me, you comforted and soothed me.” Psalm 94:19. 2. To have known Peg Trotter Sites was to have loved her. I was blessed to have know “Mrs. Trotter” when I had the honor and blessing to have taught many of her children at St. Genevieve School in Flourtown, PA. In all the years I knew her, I had such admiration and respect for her. She was the true definition of a loving, devoted, and caring mom, one who always had a beautiful smile and a kind word. You were all blessed to have had her in your lives. Thank God for our faith knowing that someday you will be reunited where she will be there with opened arms.
