Joyce (Brownley) Gebhard passed away peacefully on August 19, 2019 at her home in Kendal-Crosslands Communities in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.
Joyce was born March 24, 1931 in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Captain Howard and Ivy Brownley, and was the sister of the late Captain Robert Brownley She spent her childhood in the area and later attended Simmons College where she earned a degree in Chemistry. After graduation, she worked as a Chemist for Dupont in Wilmington, Delaware. It was there that she met her future husband, John C, Gebhard, Jr. They were married in 1955 and settled in Brandywine Hills, Pocopson Township, near West Chester, Pennsylvania.
John and Joyce are survived by three children: Scott (Pam) Gebhard of Brielle, New Jersey; Bob (Patty) Gebhard of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Cindy (Tim Scheid) Gebhard of Bohannon, Virginia. John, now deceased, and Joyce were happily married for 63 years and were the proud grandparents of seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Joyce was an active school mom and a volunteer for the Red Cross for many years. She and John were avid travelers and enjoyed attending plays and playing bridge with many good friends.
John and Joyce moved to Crosslands after retirement and immersed themselves in numerous activities, enjoying the sense of community and many fine people that they encountered. The family is grateful for the care and compassion they received during their time at Crosslands.
Joyce was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life service will be held for Joyce by the family and Kendal-Crosslands Communities on October 5, 2019 at 2:00 pm.
