  1. Dennis, my tardiness in reaching out to you doesn’t reflect my sincerity. The girls made me aware of Patty’s death weeks ago and I have so frequently thought of you since then. Dennis you can’t possibly have regrets. In all my years of oncology nursing, I can say that the level of love, support, and patience you gave her isn’t often seen. You are the best! Having walked in your shoes, I am happy to help you with your journey if ever you are feeling you could use an ear. The girls (Ronni in particular) can put you in touch. RIP Patty.

  2. I am so sorry, Den, for the loss of such a wonderful person, beautiful inside and out! I just found out the sad news. I only knew Patty from her blog, but I read so often about Lucy and Roxie (and you) that I feel like I have lost a true friend. I loved Patty’s clothes style, her kitty stories, her dinners out with you (and an hour and one minute to get a haircut trips). You were her rock and I know that your family will support you through these times. God bless. a fellow blogger, Rita

  4. I only got to know Patty quite recently through blogging and so her lovely self reached down here to New Zealand. I loved her book recommendations, her love for Dennis and “the girls” and her love of nice clothes. Plus her wonderful spirit. I see we share the same faith, were teachers and the same age as well. May God go with you Dennis and while you will so miss her may her spirit be with you always. I feel blessed to have known just a small part of her.

  5. We are deeply saddened upon hearing of Patty’s passing. I was so fortunate to be able to work in Patty’s second grade classroom at North Glendale. I learned invaluable skills from her incredible teaching style. She was the kindest lady, very happy, and always so encouraging and fun. It was such a wonderful introduction to teaching.
Dennis, we will keep you in our prayers. May God be with you. In loving memory, Matthew, Lisa, & Steven Hartmann

  7. Patty and I actually never got to meet face to face. I was a book blogger, like her, who enjoyed reading to no end. We’ve known each other for 10+ years through our love of books and of course, food and the like. Patty was always such a joy to connect with. She was always asking about me and my busy life. My kids grew up over those ten years and she knew all about them. Their likes, their dislikes and what was going on in their lives. No matter what was going in in her own life, she was still connected in a way that I could not ignore. A special friend for sure. It broke my heart to see her struggle with cancer but she did so with grace. I am so sorry that she is no longer with us. I miss her so.

  8. I am so sorry to hear this news. Patty was my mentor and first colleague at North Glendale Elementary in St. Louis. Patty’s love for teaching and creative flair made her a favorite teacher and colleague. I learned so much about teaching reading and writing to young children from Patty. She made teaching so much fun. Whether she was sharing a funny student story or telling us about her newest favorite recipe, she was always a great story teller!! Patty filled our days at North Glendale with so much fun (especially through her artistic book making) and continuously showed her love for teaching young children.
Dennis, my heart breaks for you. I know how much you have always adored Patty! Keeping you and your family in my prayers.

  10. Dear Denis and family and to sweet Roxy Blue, who I know is missing her momma. I had the privilege of caring for Lucy and Roxy a few years ago, while Denis and Patty traveled. Patty was such a wonderful client and kitty momma. Her communication with me, in the form of colorful notes and helpful details were so appreciate. Patty always insisted that I help myself to any food in the house. She was so thoughtful. Not only did I love caring for Lucy and Roxy, but being in Patty‘s house, which was so beautifully decorated, I couldn’t help but feel at home. Patty even had a little area of coloring books and pencils for grown-ups. I have been blessed having Patty in my life, even for a very short time. We shared the love of Maine and kitties.
I can only wish that all of my pet sitter clients would be as thoughtful and wonderfully dedicated to the care of their kitties, as Patty.
I am keeping the family in prayer.
    Love, Donna Sottung

  17. I am so sorry to hear about Patty. I didn’t see her often after I moved away from Ohio in 1970 , but I remember her as a very beautiful person when we were young. We were close in age and I enjoyed her and family a lot. May she Rest In Peace.
