Frances Collins Ruch

September 8, 1926 - October 5, 2019 Kennett Square, PA | Age 93 Loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt and Friend

Frances Collins Ruch, 93, of Kennett Square, PA; formerly of Cape Cod, MA, Princeton Junction, NJ and Glyndon, MD, passed away peacefully on Oct. 5.

Beloved wife of 58 years to the late James J. Ruch Jr., sister of the late Mary McMullen, Aline Glavin, and Dr. Robert (Janet) Collins. She is survived by her children Frannie Ruch of NYC; Pat Ruch (Al Cerkan) of Chicago; Aline Frank of Kennett Square, PA; Katie Krathwohl of Ipswich, MA; Marylou Ruch (Tim Frey) of Ipswich, MA; Sue Barber (Bill) of Marshfield, MA; Jim Ruch (Lori) of Helena, MT; and John Ruch (Lisa) of Robbinsville, NJ; 18 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Fran was predeceased by her precious infant children, Mary Elizabeth, Ann, and Michael.

A graduate of St. Elizabeth’s College, Fran began her career as a social worker at the New York Foundling home for foster children, stepped aside to raise eight children and returned to social work until retiring at age 73. She served as Director of Seniors and Social Services for West Windsor Township, NJ, President of the NJ Senior Centers, Member of the National Counsel on Aging, and was a contributor to the establishment of National Senior Center Standards.

Born in the Bronx, Fran grew up in the New York suburb, Pelham Manor. “Franie” Collins was a sports standout and class leader, her joy always close to the surface. Her innocence, girlish delight in everything, and perpetual laugh were enjoyed by all. A devoted people person, she loved her faith, family, and sitting by the ocean in her later years (and being in the ocean for most of her life).

  2. Dear Ruch family-
So sorry to hear about your mom’s passing. She was a lovely woman. My mother (Donna Wasilewski), also a social worker, volunteered with her at the West Windsor Senior Center, when it was first established. She really enjoyed Fran’s company and conversation.

  4. I had the pure joy and pleasure of knowing Fran while she came and visited once a week while giving me communion and a few moments of companionship that always delighted me. She had a rather infectious laugh always looking very sophisticated and collegiate in outfits that she declared were 20 years old coming from the back of her closet!
She would share small stories or vignettes about her family while never talking about herself. She brought a smile to my face never making me feel like I was just another patient in a small nursing home in a small town.
May God bless all of you who had the opportunity to know and love her!

  5. Beautiful picture of a beautiful lady, inside and out! She was such a special person. Fun and funny, kind and caring and wise and wonderful! I shared a lot of good times together with Mom and Frannie when they were at Heatherwood. My sincere condolences to all her family. She will continue to be loved and missed. But it’s a comfort to think of your Mom and Dad and our Mom and Dad reunited and at peace, with no more worries.💚

  6. Frannie was my godmother, a kind, loving woman. She was picked to be my godmother because she was my mom’s lifelong best friend. When they got together there was so much laughter, love and very funny stories. My condolences to the family and I know that they are both looking down on us telling stories and having a wonderful laugh together again.

  7. My condolences to your family. I had the pleasure of getting to know Frannie over the last several years while she was in Heatherwood on the Cape where my Mom, Martha “Meg” Parker and Frankie (lifelong friends since grade school) were reunited. Frankie was so energetic and funny and went out of her way to get my Mom involved in activities and to meet everyone. My Mom and our family always appreciated that and always looked forward to seeing her there on our visits.
She was a wonderful, energy-giving woman!! I’m sure they’re laughing together again now!!

  10. After reading her life story, I can attest that her daughter Pat has the same infectious love of life! What a delight, Mrs. Ruch must have been and how wonderful that she imparted her benevolent personality and sage wisdom in her eight children. Thinking of you all!
