Kathryn (Kay) Ethel McKinney Richey

January 26, 1923 - September 10, 2020 Oxford, PA | Age 97 Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Friend.

Kathryn (Kay) Ethel McKinney Richey met her Lord and Savior face to face on Thursday evening, September 10, 2020 at the age of 97. Kay had been a resident at Ware Presbyterian nursing home over the past 7 years and has been patiently awaiting the day she would finally “Go Home”.

Kay was the daughter of the late Ethel Banker McKinney and Arthur McKinney. She grew up on the farm in Plattsburg N.Y. with her sister, Laura Mae McKinney.

Kay graduated with an English degree from Eastern Nazarene College. She played basketball, was a cheerleader, and wrote for the school paper. It was also where she met and married Myron Eugene Richey. Always together, they shared 60 years of marriage. Kay was a loving wife and faithfully supported her husband across their 60 years of service as Pastor and wife in the Church of the Nazarene. Kay was a prayer warrior, a faithful Sunday school teacher, mentor and alto choir member.

Being a Mom was her joy. She had 4 children over the span of 20 years. She enjoyed a clean home and 3 square meals a day. She made sure prayer was a part of the start of each day and made music an activity to remember. She looked forward to family vacations in the Adirondack mountains of New York.

Kay is preceded in death by her husband and sister, and is survived by 4 children; Craig and Cheryl Richey of Painesville, OH, Jim and Donna Richey of Mentor, OH, Kathy and Jim St. John of Lincoln University, PA and Laurie Richey of North Wales, PA, 8 Grandchildren and 6 Great grand-children.

To the very end, Kay always wore a smile giving evidence of Gods goodness and faithfulness to her.

Her viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 on Thursday evening, September 17, 2020 at the Avon Grove Church of the Nazarene, 240 State Road, West Grove, PA, and again from 10:00 to 11:00 on Friday morning, September 18,2020 at the Avon Grove Church of the Nazarene. Her Funeral service will follow at 11:00. Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery, Route 82, Kennett Square, PA.

Due to COVID restriction everyone is asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing.

  4. Dear Laurie and Brandon
So sorry to hear of Mom’s/Grand mom’s passing. She sounds like someone we would have loved to know. Comfort comes in knowing that she loved Jesus and to know she will be face to face in His presence, to receive a “well done” blessing.

  5. Dear Laurie and family
May blessing and peace be on you and your family during this time. Our church family was blessed to know your mom and dad during their time of service here at Ephrata (now Grace Point Church of the Nazarene). Your mom and dad always offered a quick smile or kind word and I’m sure you will miss them greatly. It’s comforting to know that they are now together again; sitting at the feet of Jesus!
God bless you all. Know that you are loved by our church.
