John W. Needham “Willie”

November 10, 1937 - July 15, 2021 West Grove, PA | Age 83

Mr. John W. Needham “Willie”, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Select Specialty Care in Wilmington DE. He was the husband of Sara (Scott) Needham “Sally” for almost 62 years. Born on November 10, 1937 in West Grove he was the son of the late L. Bert Needham and Blanche E. (Thomas) Needham.

Willie was a graduate of Avon Grove High School, class of 1955. After high school Willie served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. He devoted his life to hard work beginning with owning the Amoco Service Station just outside of West Grove. He then worked for Pensupreme/Penn Dairies making deliveries and becoming a route manager. He entered into the mushroom business working for Mushroom Express as a packing room manager. At the age of 50 he started his own business, remodeling homes and businesses and repairing machinery in the mushroom industry. He was a longtime member of the Toughkenamon Presbyterian Church, a Past President of the Avon Grove Lion’s Club (1974-75) where he was a member since 1961. In his free time he enjoyed going to classic car shows and loved setting off fireworks at their 4th of July picnics.

In addition to his wife, Willie is survived by his children, Jane Needham Morrissiey (George) and William S. Needham (Marie), grandchildren Wes (Hannah), Brad (Theresa), Lauren (Brandon), Lindsey, Tyler, Georgia, Olivia and Gabrielle and great grandchildren Melanie, Evelyn, Carter, Gilbert, Maisie, Benjamin, Otto, Liam, and John. Willie is preceded in death by his son John Lewis Needham and sister Marjorie Pickel (Calvin). He is also survived by siblings Louise Courtney (late Robert), Donald B. Needham (Judith) and James L. Needham (Bernice).

Friends will be received on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 from 6 PM to 8 PM and on Thursday, July 22, 2021 from 10 AM until 11 AM at the Foulk Funeral Home of West Grove, 200 Rose Hill Road, West Grove, PA where services will begin at 11 AM. Interment will follow in Union Hill Cemetery, Kennett Square. Contributions may be made in Mr. Needham’s name to the Avon Grove Lion’s Club, 600 N Baker Station Rd, West Grove, PA 19390.     Gerry and I are so sorry to hear of Willy’s passing. Such a fun loving soul.
    I always enjoyed hearing his stories and saying. Whenever asked how he was
    doing, the reply was “finer than frogs hair and that’s pretty darn fine”.
