Emma Elizabeth HillDecember 30, 2005 - February 19, 2022 Kennett Square | Age 16
Emma Elizabeth Hill, of Kennett Square, PA, passed away suddenly at the young age of 16 on Saturday, February 19, at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia after a brief, severe illness. She was with her loving mother and father at the time of her passing.
Emma was born in 2005 in Reston, VA, and was the daughter of Brian T. and Amy C. Hill, and sister of Tyler T. Hill.
Emma was an excellent student as a sophomore at Unionville High School. She loved to swim and was a dedicated member of both the Kennett YMCA Sea Dragons and UHS swim teams. In her spare time, Emma was a lifeguard and also taught young children how to swim at the Y. As a younger child and teenager, Emma excelled on the ballfield while being coached by her dad in URA softball.
Throughout Emma’s brief illness, she was strong and determined to get better, and did not let her health issues define her in any way. In the months during which Emma had 3 hospital stays and a difficult path to recovery, she continued to swim competitively, got straight A’s, met her first boyfriend (Ernesto), celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas at her grandparents’ homes, started to learn to drive, and remained a loyal and loving friend. She celebrated her 16th birthday with her closest friends at a slumber party with very little slumber.
Emma was beautiful in every sense of the word, and was loved throughout the Kennett Square community and beyond. She worked hard at whatever she was trying to accomplish, but always with a cheery, exuberant attitude and gorgeous smile. More than anything, her absolute kindness and warm heart are what made Emma our sweet girl.
In addition to her parents and brother, Emma is survived by her grandparents David L. and Jane F. Mordan of Johnstown PA, and Carl E. and Linda F. Hill of Reading PA; her uncle, David Mordan and his wife Kimberly, and aunt, Amy (Hill) Chiarelli and husband John. She is also survived by her loving cousins Ashley and Jessica Mordan, Derek MacDonald (wife, Korrie), and Andrew, Olivia, and Jack Chiarelli.
You are invited to visit with Emma’s family and friends from 4 PM to 7 PM on Saturday, February 26, and Sunday, February 27, from 1 PM to 5 PM. Viewings will be held at Kuzo Funeral Home, 250 West State Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348. Dear Brian and family,
We just learned of Emma’s passing, and we can’t imagine the pain and sorrow you feel. We will remember her in our prayers and, although we didn’t know her, based on your beautiful tribute to her, we know that she rests in God’s loving arms. May God bless you all.
Dear Hill Family,
Please accept my sincere condolences for the passing of sweet Emma. She will forever live in my mind as that bright eyed little girl who walked into my kindergarten classroom with the biggest smile everyday. I will continue to read and cherish the books that she and her Girl Scout troop wrote for me. There are no words that can take away the pain of Emma’s passing, but I hope that you know how much she is loved. I am sorry that I was unable to say this in person over the weekend. The memorial service today was such a beautiful tribute to her love of family and life. I do promise to remember Emma’s smile always and pass it along to new UE kindergartners in Emma’s honor.
Amy, Brian & Tyler… We have been thinking of you all so much lately…. No words could convey how heartbroken we are for you & the family.💔 Thanks for letting us be there virtually today🙏🏻.
Brian, Fer, Nick & Jack Stefanick
I’m at a loss for words and have been deeply grieving the loss of your sweet Emma since I heard the news. It isn’t fair. I am so sorry. I cannot imagine your sorrow at the loss of this beautiful girl. For others reading, I was Emma’s second grade teacher. I loved and adored her. She was a standout then— and it seems as I read the tributes that she only grew more special as she grew. As a child she was so smart and hard working, but what made her really special was how gentle and kind she was— the type of unique kindness toward others that makes you think— she must have such loving parents to raise her this way. I’ll remember Emma always.
I wish I could be there this weekend, and would be in a heartbeat if I weren’t away on a trip. Sending love and prayers to you during this unimaginably difficult time.
Mr. and Mrs. Hill and Tyler – I was heartbroken to hear of Emma’s passing. She was one of my favorite swimmers to coach during the few years I was lucky enough to do so. She was always so positive, caring, and kind, and she never failed to brighten my day. She was such a light in so many lives. Please know that I’m thinking about you during this difficult time.
Amy, Brian, and Tyler, we are sending you love and our deepest sympathies for the loss of your lovely daughter (and sister), Emma. Thank you for sharing your beautifully written tribute of your special girl. What a bright light she shone! No words can ease the pain you are experiencing, but please know we are praying for you daily and are here for you if you ever need anything at all.
Brian, Amy, and Tyler – we send our deepest condolences. Brian, you were Cece’s first softball coach back in 2018, and again in 2020 for the covid season that got moved to summer/fall. Remember how much fun they (we) all had once they finally got the green light to play?! Emma was a kind, beautiful young lady and we will remember her always. Please know that we are praying for you, and will continue to do so.
Amy, Brian, Tyler and family – Our deepest sympathies on the loss of Emma. In every interaction around baseball or scouts for Tyler, she was kind and friendly to all. A “warm heart” indeed. She seemed so grounded and centered in this life, and able to speak comfortably whether to those her own age, younger or older. We know you will carry her in your hearts always, and we hope all who knew her continue to be inspired by her warm heart. We are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
Brian, heartfelt condolences to you and your family! I can not imagine your sorrow! May the great memories never fade and help to comfort your family and friends! God bless! And thoughts and prayers from myself and your UGI family! Brad Aspril
