James J. Kogut, Sr.
May 16, 2023 Kennett Square, PA "Good in Every Sense of the Word"James J. Kogut, Sr., age 65 of Kennett Square, PA, died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. He was the loving husband of his beloved wife Eileen Kogut (Anglim), with whom he shared nearly 40 years of marriage and built a beautiful life.
Born in 1957 in Darby, PA, he was the second son of the late Theodore Kogut, Sr. and the late Florence Kogut. He graduated from Penncrest High School in Media, PA where he enjoyed singing in the choir and participating on the swim team. He later enrolled at the Automotive Training Center, which would lead him to an almost 30 year career as a mechanic. Jim later would continue his education receiving a certificate in Computer Software, which allowed him to create his own business that he would own and run until his passing.
Jim loved all of the simple things in life. He loved canoeing down the Brandywine River, DJing family parties, sipping on a highball, playing music on his guitar or piano, and watching the Philadelphia Eagles. He was perfectly content to just be around the people that he loved. Jim treated everyone he met as if they were family and his generosity knew no bounds. He enjoyed going to the beach with his family— floating in the ocean and building sandcastles. He was always the life of the party, typically being the first and last person out on the dance floor. He could fix anything and had every tool under the sun. He was good in every sense of the word, always being there whether you needed a shoulder to cry on or a funny story to make you laugh.
Jim’s biggest passion, however, was undoubtedly his family. He loved to spend his evenings with Eileen, cooking dinner and watching television with their dog, Jojo. He loved to spend his weekends with his children, who he was so immensely proud of. The true joy of his life was being a Pop Pop to his adored Elyse and Declan— reading books, cuddling, and sitting with them on his front porch. He always put his family first and was a constant pillar of strength for them.
Jim is survived by his wife, Eileen; his three sons, Dr. James J. Kogut, Jr. (Katrice), Kyle Kogut (Emily), and Connor Kogut; one daughter, Kathleen Kogut; as well as two grandchildren, Elyse and Declan Kogut; two brothers, Theodore Kogut, Jr. (Helen) and Stephen Kogut (Angie); as well as several nieces and nephews.
You are invited to visit with Jim’s family and friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 26 at Chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. A Funeral Mass will follow the next day, Saturday, May 27 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, 212 Meredith St., Kennett Square, PA 19348. A private burial will follow Mass. All are welcome to join the family to a luncheon after Jim’s services.

I am so saddened by the loss of yet another kind hearted, wonderful father, husband, man. I know the pain you are going through and I pray for your comfort and peace in the days, weeks, years to come. My deepest condolences.
I had just gotten to know Jim — and what a nice man. We spent time on his beloved front porch chatting about our life experiences when I was picking up and dropping off some laptops just a few weeks ago. We are the same age. He was modest, but proud of all that his children had achieved. I pointed out how he made all that possible for them and complimented him on such accomplishment. It was evident in our conversation that he was completely satisfied with all that he had accomplished in his life. And now, I trust that he rests in complete peace and satisfaction without any regrets. God has blessed Jim. I shall not soon forget him.
