Frances Alft, 87, died May 4th. She was born in Monticello, Iowa, June 25, 1928, the daughter of John C. and Bernice (Domer) Clark, both Iowa teachers, and was raised in Wheatland, Iowa. She was a graduate of Grinnell College and married a 49 classmate, E. C. (Mike) Alft, on August 12, 1950.
Fran was an A.S.C.P. certified medical technologist in the laboratory of Sherman Hospital from 1969 to 1990. After retirement she was a volunteer at the hospital for more than eighteen years and worked on accessions at the Elgin History Museum. She was a member of Searchers and the Sherman Hospital Auxiliary.
Quiet and self-effacing, she was devoted to her family and placed their needs before hers. Fran enjoyed music, reading, traveling, and visits from children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, two daughters, Barbara Bolender of Phoenix, Arizona, and Susan (Peter) Stanchak of Portage, Michigan; two sons, John (Rustie) Alft of Normal, Illinois, and Michael (Mary Teresa) Alft of New London, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildrenCameron , Drew, and John Bolender; Katherine Horton, Anne, and Sam Stanchak; Staycea Whitlock; Amelia, and Mikaela Elisabeth Alftand six great-grandchildrenSummer, Anavey, Virginia and Clark Bolender; and Areanna and Hope Whitlock.
Private memorial services were held for members of the family.
