Barbara Donohoe Obituary

Age 86
Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Sister

Barbara (Bobbie) Louise Donohoe, 86, passed on to her eternal, heavenly resting place on August 14th, 2016. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief of God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her grace and perfect peace as she departed from her earthly home.

Barbara is predeceased by her parents Wade and Grace (Robinson) Wilson and her eldest sister Eva Manning. Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Philip G. Donohoe of West Grove, PA, her son Michael Donohoe (Terri) of Landenberg, PA, her daughter Jane Henry (David) of Avondale, PA, who will miss her deeply, and her sister and best friend, Evelyn Santucci of Landenberg, PA. She is also survived by her grandchildren: CWO3 Joshua Whann (Amy) of Woodbridge Va, Phillip Donohoe and Jacquilyn Donohoe of Landenberg, PA. Lauren LaMack of New York, NY, Sarah LaMack of Avondale, PA, David Henry, Jr. and Benjamin Henry of Avondale, PA. In addition, Barbara will be deeply missed by many cherished family members, nieces, nephews, Godchildren, and dear friends too numerous to count.

Sharing 64 wonderful years of marriage, Barbara and Phil had a beautiful bond of an unwavering faith in God and commitment to their loved ones. This dedication was evident throughout all aspects of her life, and together Barbara and Phil built the foundation of a strong family based on faith, support and enduring love. Together, they founded a mushroom-growing enterprise where she served as a business partner of a successful establishment that flourished for 27 years. They then went on to operating a retail establishment serving the mushroom industry until the age of retirement.

She was a graduate of Kennett High School and was a proud founding member of the Kennett High School Alumni Association.

An avid reader of the bible, Barbara could always be counted on to share a recently read passage with a loved one to brighten their day. She combined her love of Christ and reading by participating in the Circle of Grace Bible Study group for many years while at her former parish, Saint Mary of the Assumption Church in Hockessin, Delaware. She was also a member of several other community committees and a founding member of the SAGES senior group. Barbara shared her faith and happiness with others by becoming a Eucharistic Minister and a Catechist for this Catholic ministry. She served as a member of the Coffee Run Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and was the Principal of the PREP children’s Christian educational program for three years at St. Mary of the Assumption. For many years, she volunteered at the Cokesbury Village Retirement Community, the Kennett Area Senior Center, and was a member of the Theodore Burr Covered Bridge Society of Pennsylvania. Barbara volunteered countless hours with families through the Neighborhood Hospice of the Chester County Hospital, providing comfort and compassion to others in their final moments of need. She shared her love of horticulture and gardening with many with her respect and love for nature and wildlife preservation in addition to her love and admiration of all animals great and small. Her favorite activity was spending time entertaining and socializing with her dear friends and family.

For the past 15 years, Barbara lived at Jenners Pond Retirement Community and was a member of the Assumption BVM Church in
West Grove, Pennsylvania.

Barbaras life was filled with joy, creativity, laughter, and the love of those that knew her. Her deep faith in God that sustained her throughout her life carried her through to her last days and continues to live on in the hearts of her loved ones. She will be forever remembered for her quick witted charm, deep wisdom of life, and willingness to lend a hand to any friend in need. (Luke 23:43) Jesus told him, I tell you with certainty, today you will be with me in Paradise.
