"Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver"
2Corinthians 9:7
Sweet, beloved Charlotte "Mimi" McHoul of West Grove, PA was called home to Heaven on November 24, 2024. Charlotte's life was an ideal example, one well-lived. Born on March 27, 1936, in Upper Darby PA, she was the second daughter of Angelene and Cono Rizzo. Charlotte was best known for her giving spirit and deep love - of family, of community, of friends, and most importantly of the Lord. Charlotte's days on Earth were imbued with this love and commitment, and like the Sycamore tree in her dear Lansdowne, PA, her reach was wide and far. So many lives have been touched by her generosity.
Charlotte was most joyful when surrounded by family. Raising her four children was one of her most proud achievements. Memories of her will be cherished by her three daughters: Cherie (Damian) Harding, Caryn (Damon) McHoul-Wallis, and Heather (Richard) Smalley, her son Jeff (Sara), as well as her 9 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
With a passion for volunteering, Charlotte's community engagement was inspiring. Her involvement with the Girl Scouts spanned 50 years, centering mainly around her leadership of Brownie Troop #26 in Lansdowne, PA. Just as notable, Charlotte's fondness for teaching - teamed with her devotion to Christ - led to a lifetime of religious education for young Catholics in both Delaware and Chester counties. For this she was recognized and awarded for 30 years as a Catechist by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Charlotte's deep faith energized her daily life of service - whether raising her beautiful voice in song with the parish choir or bringing Christ to others as a Eucharistic Minister. Her boundless kindness and giving spirit extended to helping at school libraries, high school English departments, and homeless outreach/food preparation programs.
While all this would exhaust the average person, not Charlotte. She somehow managed to squeeze in sewing handcrafted prom and bridesmaid gowns, baking endless batches of Christmas cookies, or hosting large family gatherings every holiday.
Charlotte married her soulmate Joseph in 1960 and has now joined him in Heaven just in time for what would have been their 64th wedding anniversary. Charlotte and Joe's steadfast devotion to each other had all the makings of a great love story as they lived and honored the sacrament of marriage.
Singing showtunes, enjoying vintage tv shows (like MASH), and relaxing on the beach were some of Charlotte's favorites in her downtime. She and Joe delighted in their annual family vacations to Myrtle Beach, SC, which will now serve as their final resting place.
A visitation will be held on Saturday December 14th at 10:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am at St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother Church, 8910 Gap Newport Pike, Avondale, PA 19311.
