Clarence “Raymond” Porter, 98, passed away Friday, November 10, 2023 at Christiana Hospital. He was the husband of Patsy Porter with whom he shared 64 loving years of marriage.
Raymond was born the fourth youngest of five children to Clarence and Rhoda Porter in West Grove, PA on June 3, 1925. He worked on the family farm during his early years before buying the local hardware store, Marvel & Smith, Inc, located in West Grove and owning it until his retirement.
Raymond was a lifetime resident of West Grove. He graduated from Avon Grove High School – Class of 1943.
Raymond wore many titles: son, brother, husband, dad, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend. Raymond loved farming and raising farm animals and crops. Raymond also loved bowling and was in a weekly bowling league for more than a decade. He enjoyed spending his evenings and days off mowing the lawn, tinkering on equipment, working on the farm, hunting, watching sports or spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy, his three daughters: Rhoda Quickel, Bonnie Porter, and Lori Porter, three granddaughters: Samantha, Sabrina and Cori, and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Porter.
In his memory, we ask that you take a moment to hug your loved ones or take a walk in nature. Time waits for no one.
