Clyde enlisted in the United States Army from Johnson City, Tennessee. He served for over a decade during and after World War II, where he was a decorated sharpshooter and heavy truck driver in the Fifteenth Transportation Company, and he received his GED.
After his service in the Army, Clyde moved to Chester County, Pennsylvania where he continued his education. He earned a business degree and frequent dean’s list recognition from Goldey Beacom College and was certified for operation of the backhoe-front end loader and dump truck. Clyde worked at the NVF Company of Kennett Square for over 30 years where he was a Setup Operator and Diesetter, and later moved to be in the Shipping and Receiving Department from where he later retired.
