Dorothy C. Akerman

A Kind and Gentle Woman Who Will Be Dearly Missed

Dorothy C. Akerman, age 103 of Landenberg, PA, passed away Monday, May 13, 2019 in her home and will be missed by her loving family.

Dorothy was the wife of the late Wilson Akie Akerman.

She was born 1916 in Kennett Square, PA to the late John Cuddy and the late Lola Keating Cuddy.

Dorothy attended Landenberg Methodist Church. She enjoyed attending horse shows and always had a love of horses.

For nearly 80 years, Dorothy shared a beautiful friendship with her closest confidante, Anne Paxson.

Dorothy was a kind and gentle woman. She was a magnificent mother to her children and had immense love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was also an amazing cook! As a child of the Great Depression era, she had a wonderful talent for making a little go a long way and could transform a can of Spam into a gourmet meal.

Dorothy is survived by her son, William H. Akerman and his wife Lydia Richardson Akerman of Landenberg, PA; her daughter, Ruthann Vaganov of Landenberg, PA; as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her son, James W. Akerman and his wife, Audrey Bailey Akerman; her sisters, Ruth Brittingham Cuddy, Margaret Cuddy, and Regina Cuddy; her brother, John L. Cuddy; and her stepsister, Alice Hickey Torello.

A Viewing will be held for Dorothy on Friday, May 17, 2019 from 10:00 to 11:00AM at Landenberg Methodist Church, 205 Penn Green Rd, Landenberg, PA 19350. The Service will begin at 11:00AM. Interment will follow at Union Hill Cemetery in Kennett Square, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks donations be mailed to Landenberg Methodist Church, PO Box 36, Landenberg PA 19350.
