Dorothy H. Kohl, age 100, of Newtown Square, PA, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at White Horse Village. She was the wife of the late Dr. John Michael Kohl who passed away in 1980, and with whom she shared 32 years of marriage.
Born in Harrington, DE, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Harding and the late Johanna Pfleger Harding.
After graduating from the Jefferson School of Nursing, Dorothy worked as a nurse in Philadelphia, then later became a homemaker and full-time mother of six. Dorothy volunteered with Chester County Meals on Wheels for many years delivering meals to the homebound in her community. She enjoyed gardening and long walks at Longwood Gardens and Tyler Arboretum, bird watching and reading. As an accomplished painter, she leaves a large body of work for her family to treasure. Her biggest joy was spending time with her family and her many grandchildren and great and great-great grandchildren. Her warm, happy, smile and laughter will be sorely missed.
She is survived by four daughters and one son: Cynthia Ann Smyth and her husband Joseph of Drexel Hill, PA, Sharon K. Heath of Palmetto, FL, Kathleen M. Snyder of Equinunk, PA, Patricia Jo Kohl Davis and her husband Thomas of Kennett Square, PA, John Michael Kohl, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Athos, ID and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mrs. Kohl was predeceased by Richard Kohl (son), Amy Davis (granddaughter), Emily Smyth (great-granddaughter), and her siblings: Ernie, Stanley, Alma and her twin sister, Betty.
A Celebration of her life will be held at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1818 Market Street, Suite 282, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
