Edgardo Peiretti, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, at 7:49 p.m., surrounded by love and prayer—just as he wished.
Born February 5th, 1941, in San Francisco, Argentina, Edgardo was the son of the late Pedro and Guillermina Peiretti. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ruben and Antonio Peiretti.
Husband to Esther Teresa Franco, with whom they shared 50 beautiful years. Together they built a life grounded in faith, devotion, and family. He was a proud father to three children: Viviana Peiretti (husband, Jason Taylor Smith), Claudio Peiretti, and Mariana Peiretti Engle (husband, William Arthur Engle).
He was the cherished grandfather of seven grandchildren: William Edgard Engle (17), Marshall Everett Smith (16), Thomas Arthur Engle (14), Emma Marie Smith (12), Charles Peter Engle (10), Grant Edward Smith (9), and the youngest, Henry Jackson Engle (9).
Edgardo was lovingly known as “Guelo,” a name given to him when his first grandson, Will, was unable to pronounce abuelo as a baby. The name stuck and became his badge of honor.
Nothing made him prouder than being greeted on the street as “Guelo.” Being a grandfather was his life’s greatest joy and his most treasured achievement. He embraced his role as the family patriarch with pride, humility, and deep love.
Guelo was always impeccably dressed for every occasion, carrying himself with quiet elegance and intention. He had a keen eye for quality and a deep appreciation for beautiful things—fine furnishings, thoughtful details, and exceptional wine. His love of beauty extended beyond objects; it reflected the care and pride with which he lived his life.
Weekends often found Guelo gathered with family and friends around the kitchen table or grill, hosting asados filled with laughter, stories, and wisdom. His grandchildren knew him as a storyteller, a teacher, and a constant source of guidance—always generous with his time, his advice, and his heart.
When not surrounded by family, Edgardo could often be found in his woodworking shop, immersed in one of his many projects, classical music playing at full volume. Meticulous and disciplined, he knew exactly where everything belonged—each tool, each piece, always in its rightful place. He loved sharing this passion with his grandchildren, teaching them not only craftsmanship, but also respect, care, and pride in valuing what we own.
An animal lover through and through, Edgardo shared 17 wonderful years with his beloved dog, Suki. Later, he became the proud “grandfather” of his grand-dogs: Toby, Bruno, and Alfie. He was often seen walking them, enjoying the outdoors as much as the dogs enjoyed his company.
He loved classical music, meaningful friendships, good wine, and gatherings filled with laughter. He cherished his friends deeply and lived his life with courage, strength, and quiet bravery.
Edgardo cared devotedly for Claudio and Esther for as long as he was able, until his own illness took hold. His greatest wish was to be at home when the Lord called him—and that wish was fulfilled. He passed peacefully, surrounded by the family he held so dear.
A Memorial Mass will be held on February 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Patrick’s Church, Kennett Square, PA 19348.
Following the Mass, Mariana and her family will be opening their home to family and friends to gather, share memories, and celebrate Edgardo’s life. For any questions, please feel free to reach out to Mariana Peiretti Engle, William Engle and Viviana Peiretti.
Edgardo “Guelo” Peiretti leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, discipline, devotion, and beauty that will live on through generations.
