Elizabeth “Betsy” Miriam Tracy, 81, passed away on February 5, 2026. A native of Chester, Pennsylvania, Betsy was born on August 11, 1944, to Miriam and Robert Henasey. She was the devoted wife of the late James William Tracy, with whom she is now reunited. Betsy’s memory will be cherished by her daughter, Heather; her son-in-law, Mark (her favorite, as she often said); and her grandson, Evan, who was her pride and joy. She also leaves behind her younger sister and frequent source of laughter, Judith. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and Donald.
Over the years, Betsy worked for the phone company, where she met her best friend, Mary Eder, beginning a friendship that remained dear to her throughout her life. In later years, she also worked at Soft Surroundings and Country Curtains.
Betsy and Jim loved traveling together and saw many parts of the world over the course of their marriage, often with their friends Nancy and Sam Arnold. Betsy struggled with the loss of her beloved husband, Jim, but was buoyed by her friends at Traditions at Longwood.
Betsy also enjoyed gardening, going on adventure with friends, and talking about politics. She was a loyal Philadelphia Eagles fan, enjoyed a good cheesesteak, and was a longtime member of Longwood Gardens, a place she loved visiting over many years. She was also a member of the Aqua Lovelies water aerobics group at the Kennett Area YMCA.
A service for Betsy will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026, at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Road, Wilmington, Delaware. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Longwood Gardens or the Kennett Fire Company.
Betsy is deeply missed by her family, her friends, and all who knew and loved her.
