Evelyn Tapie Middleton, age 103, of Landenberg, Pennsylvania, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 4, 2025. Born on September 19, 1922, Evelyn was the daughter of the late John Marcel Tapie and Clara Grandhomme Tapie. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph “Nelson” Middleton III, and both of her sons, Joseph “Jay” Nelson Middleton IV and John Garver Middleton. She was also preceded in death by her siblings John Marcel Tapie Jr., William Tapie, and Emmajane Tapie Sloan. Evelyn is survived by her daughter-in-law, Holly Middleton; her grandchildren, Emily Kmecz (Matt) and Eric Middleton (Samantha); and two cherished great-granddaughters, Addison and Elliana. She is also survived by her close family members Richard and Carol Bernard as well as many others, who always held a special place in her heart.
A lifelong homemaker, Evelyn took great pride in raising her family on their cherished Landenberg farm, where she lived for more than 70 years. She was a talented baker, known far and wide for her famous apple and blueberry pies, which will be fondly remembered by all who were lucky enough to enjoy them. She will also always be remembered for her infamous annual parties held at their lively Landenberg farmhouse, parties that attendees looked forward to year-round.
Evelyn loved the beauty of nature and especially enjoyed planting flowers each spring—impatiens were her favorite. She was also a devoted dog lover and shared her life with many beloved pets, including Garver, Cody, and Spree.
Evelyn’s lively spirit touched all who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, family, and faith will live on through the generations.
Evelyn was a lifetime member of Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church, where she found deep faith and community. Her celebration of life will be held there on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a brief graveside ceremony and a casual reception.
