Franklin Knox, Jr. Obituary

Franklin Robert "Bob" Knox, Jr., 77, of Unionville, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of curiosity, kindness, laughter, and service to others.

Born on September 18, 1948, Bob was the eldest child of Franklin Robert Knox, Sr., and Florence Benson Knox. Raised in Secane, Pennsylvania, he developed a lifelong love of the outdoors, mechanics, and adventure that stayed with him throughout his life.

Shortly after graduating from Ridley Senior High School in 1967, Bob worked on a dairy farm in New York before attending Temple University through its Cooperative Program, where he earned an Associate Degree in Technology in 1971. He later became a certified Engineering Technician and Journeyperson Instrumentation Technician. Bob dedicated more than three decades of his career to E.I. DuPont's Experimental Station in Wilmington, Delaware, retiring in 2016 after 33 years of service.

On October 28, 1978, Bob married the love of his life, Lisa Marie Knox. Together, they built a life centered around family, horses, and the horse farms they lovingly cared for for more than 40 years. Through their involvement with local equestrian 4-H programs and the U.S. Pony Club, Bob and Lisa mentored and encouraged countless children and young adults, sharing not only their knowledge but also their love of horses and the outdoors. .

Bob was a lifelong outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, fox hunting, and working with horses. In his early years, he rode with the Whiteland-Perkiomen Hunt and later under the guidance of Larry Miley, experiences that helped shape his lifelong passion for fox hunting and introduced him to the equestrian community, where he would eventually meet Lisa.

As a young man, he was affectionately known by his friends as "Little Billy Fox." Though the smallest of the group, he was always eager to join every adventure, whether it meant building homemade gadgets, experimenting with creative inventions, or restoring old cars.

He had a natural curiosity about how things worked and loved all things mechanical and electronic, from old radios and communications equipment to classic cars. He was happiest when he was building, repairing, or figuring something out. Friends and family knew there wasn't much Bob couldn't fix, or at least enjoy trying. He was equally fascinated by unique and eccentric gadgets as he was by the challenge of understanding how something worked.

Bob will also be remembered for his playful spirit and wonderful sense of humor. His lighthearted personality, quick wit, and ability to find joy in everyday moments brought laughter to family gatherings and left lasting memories for those who knew him best.

Above all, Bob loved sharing his knowledge with others. Whether teaching his daughters to build imaginative creations from everyday objects while waiting for dinner at a restaurant, showing them how to drive tractors and trucks around the farm at a young age, or helping friends and family with projects large and small, he was always willing to lend a hand and pass along what he knew. He believed learning should be fun and encouraged curiosity in everyone around him.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lisa Marie Knox; his daughter, Jennifer C. Knox; his parents, Franklin Robert Knox, Sr., and Florence Benson Knox; and his infant sister, Baby Girl Knox.

He is survived by his daughter, Jessica Knox (John Garges); his granddaughter, Hayley Clark; his sister, Paula Knox; his brother-in-law, Kevan Jameson (Julie); his nieces, Laura Schatzel (Brian), Kelly Stoner (Kenneth), and Christine Kern (Kyle); along with many extended family members, dear friends, former coworkers, and members of the equestrian community whose lives he touched.

Bob's kindness, curiosity, generosity, and unforgettable sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Bob's memory.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Bob's life will be held this fall. Additional details will be shared with family and friends once arrangements have been finalized.
