Gloria J. L’Amoreaux Davis

Gloria J. L’Amoreaux Davis, age 83, of West Chester, Pennsylvania and formerly of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, passed away at Riddle Hospital on July 19, 2026.

Gloria was born in Elmira, New York to the late Raymond C. L’Amoreaux and the late Ruth E. Besley L’Amoreaux.  She graduated from Southside High School in 1961 and continued her education at West Virginia Wesleyan College, where she was a sister in the Alpha Xi Delta sorority.

In 1965, she earned a degree in home economics education and started her first job as a high school home economics teacher in Havre de Grace, Maryland, where she met her husband James “Jim” Davis, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage.  Throughout the years, Gloria worked in various teaching and dining room management jobs, and she worked as a records and registration administrator at Harrisburg Area Community College.  She lived in Lower Paxton Township for over 50 years and cared about her neighbors and community. She served as the Minority Inspector of Elections in her local voting precinct for 40 years.

Gloria was a devoted wife to Jim and an amazing mother to her three children—Scott, Vickie, and Brian. She never missed a soccer, football, baseball, or softball game, nor the countless concerts, plays, musicals, and other milestones in their lives. Her children always knew they could look in the stands or the audience and find their biggest fan smiling back at them. Her love and encouragement inspired her to join the Paxton Pioneer Football Women's Auxiliary and become a Girl Scout leader and a soccer coach.

While raising her family, Gloria also cared for several neighborhood children, welcoming them into her home with the same warmth and kindness she gave her own family. When she wasn’t caring for children, Gloria enjoyed "grubbing in the dirt” (her expression for gardening), baking homemade goodies, and spending quiet time with her husband.

Gloria also held a lifelong passion for music. In high school, she was in the Qualitones and was a charter member of the Elmira chapter of the Sweet Adelines, and in college, she was in the school choir and touring choir.  She was a choir member and soloist at Calvary United Methodist Church in Harrisburg for more than 20 years.  She shared this passion with her siblings, and whenever they were together, the music flowed, usually in four-part harmony.  In her last two years at Sunrise of Westtown, she looked forward to any activity that involved music and was always happy when she could sing along.

Gloria is survived by her son R. Scott Davis of San Diego, CA; her daughter Vickie Petersen and husband Mike of Kennett Square, PA; her son Brian Davis and wife Danielle of Fredericksburg, VA; and three grandchildren—Laurel Petersen, Colin Petersen, and Sandi Davis.  She is also survived by her brother Robert L’Amoreaux and wife Linda; her brother Raymond L’Amoreaux and wife Sue; and her sister-in-law Jan Legg and husband William.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jim Davis; her sister and best friend Joyce Mills and husband Barry; and her sister-in-law Jane Baynard.

Services are private; however, if anyone wishes to honor Gloria’s life, the family requests that you plant a flower, bake a batch of cookies, sing along to your favorite song, or make a contribution to a charity that is meaningful to you.
