Jean Hazel Lake, age 89 of Lincoln University, PA, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, peacefully at her home.
Born 1936 in Norwich Norfolk, England, Jean was the daughter of the late Eliza Ratcliffe Freezer.
While growing up in England, Jean worked at a shoe factory. After relocating to the United States in 1961, she took a position as a catalog operator at Sears Department Store. She transitioned to a customer service role and remained with the store for many years.
Jean was a talented artist. She painted all throughout her life and her children and grandchildren proudly display her artwork in their homes. She also enjoyed music – particularly Elvis and Rod Stewart. Jean was very proud of her English heritage. Moving to the United States never deterred her from keeping alive the English traditions on which she was raised. Most of all, Jean loved her family. When she was spending time with loved ones, she was content and needed nothing else.
Jean is survived by her children, Linda Metcalf (Trevor), Deborah Trombetti (Bevan Connell), Charles Lake (Raedine), and Kimberly Meehan (Brian); grandchildren, Richard (Lisa), Joanne (Andy), James (Kerri), Trahern (Jenny), Marshall, Bryan (Haleigh) and Alaina (James Short); as well as great grandchildren, Olivia, Alishia, Logan, Frankie, Louie, Indiana, and Bowie. She was preceded in death by her loving sister, Joan.
You are invited to visit with Jean’s family on Monday, March 2, 2026, from 10:30AM to 11:00AM at Kuzo Funeral Home, 250 W. State Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348. A celebration of Jean’s life will begin at 11:00AM.
