John J. McGrath, III, age 65 of Kennett Square, PA, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at his home.
Born 1959 in Philadelphia, PA, John was the son of the late Edward N. McGrath and the late Lillian L. Pettineo McGrath.
Following graduation from Unionville High School in 1977, John continued his higher education at Penn State University. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Penn State in Electrical Engineering.
He worked as an electrical engineer at CTDI for his entire career.
John was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. His faith was an important part of his life.
John is survived by his sister, Ellen Hagerty of Kennett Square, PA; his brother, Edward N. McGrath, Jr. (Leslie) of Boyertown, PA; nieces, Kate, Grace and Mary, daughters of Ellen; and Debbie, Tony, Kelly and Eddie, children of Edward Jr.; as well as many grandnieces and grandnephews.
John was a quiet, intelligent man. Though he was never the loudest in the room, he had a great sense of humor and a knack for lightening the mood.
John was a hard worker but when he had time to relax, he enjoyed watching movies, particularly westerns. He was also an avid fan of Formula 1 Racing.
Family was very important to him. John was a supporter and role model for his nieces (who resided with him), Kate, Grace and Mary throughout their lives. He was always helpful to his family regardless of the task.
John will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, December 30, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 212 Meredith Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348. Interment will follow mass at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon, PA.
