John (Zip) Malchione, age 99 of Avondale, PA, died Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Jenners Pond assisted living facility. He was the husband of Helen Malchione, with whom he shared 71 years of marriage.
John was born in 1926 in Kennett Square, PA. He was the son of the late Peter and Rose Malchione.
John graduated from Kennett High School in 1944 and joined the Army Air Corps and was stationed in Germany. John was in the mushroom industry with his father and brothers at Peter Malchione and Sons, and later with his brother, Mario, and nephew, Richard, at MJR Mushrooms.
He was a parishioner at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church for many years. John enjoyed traveling with family and friends to Italy, Alaska, Myrtle Beach and Disney World, just to name a few. He was a huge fan of the Eagles and Phillies.
He was a member of the Tuffies Club and the Italian American Club. He was often seen with his wife, Helen, at the Brown Derby.
John's biggest passion was his family. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife, Helen; his daughters, Judy (Ron), Susan (Bob), and Diane (Jerry); six grandchildren, John (Tiffany), Steve (Julie), Brad (Janina), Scott (Sara), Andrew (Laura), and Jaclyn (Chris); eleven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews that he deeply loved.
In addition to his parents, Peter and Rose, John was preceded in death by his brothers, Rocco, Tony, and Mario; his nephew, Richard; and his great granddaughter, Grace.
You are invited to visit with John’s family and friends on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, from 10:30AM to 11:45AM at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, 8910 Gap Newport Pike, Avondale, PA 19311. Mass will begin at 12:00PM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made in John's memory to St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother, P.O. Box 709, Avondale, PA 19311.
John’s family would like to thank Dr. Mary-Anne Ost and staff for decades of care as well as Jenner’s Pond and Willowtree Hospice for their kindness and compassion.
