Jon Edwin (Jed) Shidler passed away peacefully at Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital at the age of 55 years on March 6, 2025, after a long battle with liver disease.
Born in Framingham, Massachusetts in May 1969, Jed and his family moved to Wilmington, Delaware six months later. He graduated from Brandywine High School in 1987 and acquired a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Delaware. Jed was a very talented artist and expressed his creativity through writing poetry, watercolor illustration, sculpture, and photography of nature scenes, developing the film using different coloration techniques, and was invited to display his artwork in several local businesses.
Jed’s favorite pastimes included travel, participating in the Society for Creative Anachronism and Pennsic War medieval/renaissance events, visiting his family’s cabin in the Georgian Bay of Ontario and cottage in Ocracoke NC, camping, fishing, canoeing, reading, listening to music, and singing in bands.
He was compassionate about animals and rescuing strays, and about spending time with family. Jed was devoted to making connections through Facebook, sharing rock band videos and mystical and fantastical artwork, as well as late night rants about politics.
Jed was predeceased by his father, Jon Keith Shidler and his sister, Gaia Nunnelee Shidler, and is survived by his mother, Elizabeth (E-Bette) Kugler Shidler, and his oldest sister, Lieschen Shidler Fish and her family (husband, Bradford and their children Caitlin, Emily and fiancé Alex Joseph, Jacob and wife Jazmin, and James), as well as his partner Corinne Casarino and lots of cousins in Ohio, Nevada, and Hawaii.
Jed’s cremation will be handled by Kuzo Funeral Home in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, and a memorial service is planned for late Spring – place and date to be shared soon. Arrangements by Kuzo Funeral Home of Kennett Square, PA.
