Mary Kathleen Sweeney Hughes

WEST GROVE, PAKathleen (Sweeney) Hughes, 87, passed away in her home at Jenners Pond Retirement Community on Thursday, August 27, 2015.
She was born on May 7, 1928 in Parkersburg, WV to Neva (Davies) and Arthur H. Sweeney. She completed an A. A. degree in Business from Stephens College, Columbia, MO in 1948 and then received her B.S.B.A degree from West Virginia University in 1950.
Shortly thereafter she joined the DuPont Corporation in Wilmington, DE where she met her husband, James S. Hughes. When she left DuPont in 1955, she was the Assistant Personnel Director. She and James Hughes were married May 30, 1954. After having spent some 20 years at home raising 3 children, she joined her husband in his Real Estate business in Ramsey, NJ as a salesperson. After retiring, they moved to Jenners Pond Retirement Community in West Grove, PA in 2006.
Kathleen was an amazing mother and grandmother who loved to play bridge, do crossword puzzles and receive bowling trophies, which she did a number of times.
She is survived by her three children: Ann Hughes (Gene) Brueggen, Anderson, IN; Peter S. Hughes, Fort Mill, SC; and Michael R. (Laura) Hughes, Augusta, GA; grandchildren: Kathleen A. Brueggen (Dustan) Pipes, Megan L. Clark, Geoffrey R. Brueggen, Jacqueline E. Brueggen (Dax) Allen, Virginia M. Brueggen, Logan J. Hughes, and Sarah M. Hughes; 2 great-grandsons: Hunter and Elijah Pipes.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James S. Hughes and her sister, Alice S. Monroe, as well as both of her parents and her brother, Major General Arthur H. (Veronica) Sweeney, Jr.
Kathleens remains will be interred alongside her husband at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, DC on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 2pm. There will be a short grave-site service held at that time.
Memorial gifts may be made to the veterans organization of the givers choice.
