Melissa was the youngest daughter of Lloyd C. May Sr. and Helen M Scott. Born 1/12/1974 in West Chester, Pa.
She was the youngest of seven children, she was predeceased by her parents; older brother, Baxter May; two nephews, Jeffrey May and Kristopher Peirson.
She leaves behind her sisters, Cathy Daddario (Mike), Deborah May, Muriel May (Kenny); two brothers, Lloyd C. May Jr. (Patti) and Dwayne May (Pamela); several nieces and nephews who grew up with Melissa as a sister; aunts and uncles; and many many cousins.
Melissa loved music and she loved to dance.
Melissa loved the interaction she had with her nieces and nephews and they all treated Melissa with love and kindness she was never left out in their games or tom foolery.
Melissa loved her Babies (dolls) her pocketbooks filled with all her makeup. She loved playing with pen and paper as though she was writing the next best novel and swimming in the family pool all summer.
Melissa was mentally handicapped but she taught the entire family what it meant to love someone unconditionally, she was a joy to everyone that knew her . She brought so much to her family including understanding, acceptance not only to her brothers and sisters but to her nieces and nephews to accept the limits we all have in life and to embrace them and reach out to those less fortunate.
Melissa was uninhibited, she was full of joy and energy. She was happy and exuded it effortlessly even though she was non-verbal.
The family wants to extend their appreciation to the staff at Elwyn for the care Melissa received in her group home in Aston, Pa. They all were very caring and kind to Melissa. Special thanks to Clarissa Mayes and to all the nurse techs that aided in her care.
Thank you to Bayada Hospice staff for all they did for Melissa in her final days.
The loss of our Baby Sister and her cancer diagnosis was devastating to all her family members and for her brother Lloyd who was her guardian after her parents passed. Lloyd and his wife Patti ensured that Melissa was well cared for and received everything she needed throughout her short life. Lloyd (Mickey) took on that responsibility and was honored to do so.
Melissa will be in the arms of loved ones and in the hearts of those she left behind.
A private graveside service will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024 at 10:00AM at Faggs Manor Cemetery, Cochranville PA 19330.
