Olivio (Olie) A. Avello, 89, formerly of Kennett Square, died peacefully surrounded by his loving partner, Ellen Young, after a short illness in Fort Myers, FL, Thursday, October 6, 2022.
Olie, as he was liked to be called, was originally from Kennett Square and attended Kennett High School.
He is preceded in death by his parents Francesca and Enrico Avello; loving wife Mary D. DiPlacido Avello of 54 years, brother Hercules Avello, and sister, Irma Censurato.
Olie was a proud mushroom grower, and part owner of ACA and AWA mushrooms. He admired his wifes venture in business when she became president and part-owner of Dove Mushrooms.
Olie valued his accomplishments as a successful businessman, and experienced mushroom grower. He will be remembered for his honesty and strong work ethic. He was a devoted family man, and loved being surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and friends. He enjoyed traveling and was grateful to have his loving companion, Ellen, by his side during his final years.
He is survived by daughters: Diane Avello Wood of Wildwood, N.J., Donna Avello Antonelli (and husband John Antonelli) of Hockessin, DE.; grandchildren: Olivia Lia Burkey of Avondale, Christopher Chris Wood of Baltimore, MD., and Richard Rick Angelucci Jr. and wife Liza Angelucci of Wilmington, DE.; greatgrandchildren, Brittany Gonsalves and her husband Shawn of Naples, FL., Olivio Leo Simpkins and Jacob Jake Burkey of Avondale, and Austin Bacot of Baltimore, MD. Olie is also survived by loving family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to call at Kuzo Funeral Home, 250 West State St., Kennett Square, Thursday, Oct. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Patricks Church, 212 Meredith Street in Kennett Square on Friday, Oct. 21 at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow mass at St. Agnes Cemetery in West Chester.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Jude Research Hospital for Children, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
