Patrick Mallon Obituary

Age 27
His Ultimate Superpower Was His Capacity to Love Others

Patrick Barrett Mallon of Kennett Square, PA, died suddenly on Friday August 9th, 2019 from complications related to undiagnosed heart disease. He was the cherished son of Beth and Jamie Mallon and the beloved brother of Daniel (29), Ryan (26) and Emily (20).

Patricks life held so much joy, energy, and excitement. It also had intellect and curiosity. Patrick was passionate about live music and music festivals, especially listening to Phish and the Grateful Dead. He loved reading, history, dancing, and really good tacos. Well, to be honest, Patrick loved cheese steaks, pretzels, chili cheese, and chipped beef on toast too. He was a tremendous Philadelphia Eagles fan and proudly wore a Dawkins or Peters jersey for every game. Patricks family thinks his ultimate superpower was his capacity to love others. He had an enormous talent for honoring friendship and generously supporting the people in his life. Friends and family would also claim that he gave the best hugs in the world.

Patrick was a proud 2010 graduate of Kennett High School where he was a National Honor Society member, National Merit Finalist, and a participant of the Football team, Track and Field Team and Humanitarian Club. While a high school student, he also completed his Black Belt in Tang So Doo. During his graduation ceremony from Kennett, Patrick was both a commencement speaker and recipient of the Corene Amoss Award for Excellence in Social Studies.

Patrick was a John Marshall Scholar at Franklin and Marshall College, where he received his Bachelors Degree in 2014, with a major in American Studies and a minor in African American Studies. He participated on the Football team and the Rugby team, and was a member of the Sigma Pi Fraternity. At the time of his death, Patrick was attending St. Josephs University for a Masters in Criminal Justice, while simultaneously getting his Board Certification in Behavior Analysis.

Working at the Glen Mills School as a counselor, teacher, and coach, was one of the great joys of Patricks life. Until his death, he remained close to the friends he made there and the students he served. When Glen Mills closed in 2019, Patrick accepted a position with the Chester County Intermediate Unit as a Behaviorist at the Learning Center in Coatesville, Pa. This new professional chapter provided Patrick another opportunity to support the behavioral success of adolescent students.

Patricks starring role in his own story is over and his 27 chapters are written. Clearly, the story was far too short for such a big personality and generous soul. If you judge a good life by the amount of time, then Patricks is going to come up short. Yet, if you define it by any other measures, it seemed that he lived like a king and his story is one for the ages.

People can honor him by extending his generosity and love for others. Donate, vote, volunteer, coach, plant a tree. Do something, anything. Those who loved Patrick are part of the chapters that he wasnt able to write himself.
