Richard ‘Dick’ R. Plyler, age 88 of Oxford, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. He was the husband of the late Jessie A. Watt Plyler, with whom he shared 70 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2024.
Dick was born 1936 in Kittanning, PA to the late Ralph Irvin Plyler and the late Eva Woodall Plyler.
After graduating from Kittanning high school, Dick attended the Pennsylvania Military College (now known as Widener University) while working full time at Scott Paper. He went on to work for Scott Paper Company for 43 years, in various leadership roles including Mill Manager at the Fort Edward Plant and staff engineering in Tinicum, Pa before his retirement
Dick and Jessie were high school sweethearts. He was the wide receiver on the football team, and she was a majorette. The pair built a beautiful life and family together and never stopped loving each other throughout their 70 years.
Dick was a hands-on father. He loved to travel and camp with his family. He was always involved in his son’s cub scout and boy scout troops including various camping excursions.
He was a formidable man who took pride in everything he did. When he decided to take on a challenge or learn a new skill, he wholeheartedly threw himself in to every project. He wouldn’t rest until things were done exactly as they should be. Including building a color TV from scratch, he executed every task he took on to the best of his abilities.
RC Airplanes were one of his biggest passions. He was involved with many RC Fly clubs over the years and was President of the Cloud Kings RC Club, Oxford PA. Dick loved to build and collect the models and earned his single engine pilot’s license so he could fly the real ones too.
Dick is survived by his sons, R. Douglas Plyler, Mark Plyler (Carolyn), and David Plyler (Cathy); his daughter, Lisa Glass (Tom); 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; as well as 2 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Jessie, Dick was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert W. Plyler and James I. Plyler.
