Robert G. Dorothy

Dr. Robert Glenn Dorothy, 85, of Glen Mills, passed away on March 3rd, 2026, surrounded by those who loved him.

Born on June 27th, 1940, in Canton, Illinois, Bob was the son of Virgil and Anna May Dorothy. He built a life marked by kindness, humor, steadiness. He had a brilliant mind—drawn to science, language, and mathematics—but it was the way he shared that intellect with others, patiently and generously, that defined him even more.

Bob earned his PhD in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance from the University of British Columbia in 1967, a milestone that reflected both his curiosity and his determination. He went on to spend his career as a Physicist at DuPont, where he was respected for his work and held multiple patents in his field.

Outside the lab, Bob found joy in the wide world. He loved sailing, snorkeling and diving—whether on familiar waters or far‑off coastlines—and he treasured traveling with his family, especially their trips to Europe and England. He appreciated a good glass of wine, a well‑told story, and the simple pleasure of being together.

Bob is survived by his children, Dr. Christopher Dorothy (Alyssa) and Kristen Bedsole (Andrew); and by his six grandchildren, who brought him endless pride: Andrew, Bailey, Kylie, Cody, Mya and Isaac. He is also survived by his sister, Joanna (James) Agnew, of Newton, Iowa. Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet Dorothy.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society’s Memorial and Honor Giving program, a cause close to Bob’s heart.
