Shirley (Bahel) Brittingham Decker, 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 15, 2020 at Twin Pines Health Care in West Grove, PA, surrounded by her oldest daughter and son.
Shirley was the daughter of the late William and Alva Bahel.
In her early years, Shirley worked for ACA Mushrooms in Kennett Square. She was an active member of the Avondale Fire Company as part of the ambulance squad and Ladies Auxiliary. She retired from Avon Fuel in Avondale, PA.
Shirley and Jim loved to travel. She was a doll collector and enjoyed crafting with MaryAnn and the residents of Twin Pines. She was well known for her signature recipes and loved cooking in her free time. As a 1954 graduate of Kennett High School, Shirley regularly attended the annual reunion socials.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Decker, Sr.; former husband, Hilborn Brittingham, Jr.; brother, Robert Bahel; and her son, Jeffrey A. Brittingham.
Shirley is survived by her brother, Richard (Donna) Bahel of Wilmington, DE; her children, MaryAnn (Dan) Peters of Kennett Square, PA, Hilborn Gus Brittingham III (Pam) of Avondale, PA, Michael (Sheila) Brittingham of McMinnville, OR, Patti (Albert) Schrack of Delaware City, DE, Debbie (Claude) Chamberlain of Evanston, WY and Andrew (Brenda) Brittingham of Tuscumbia, AL and daughter in law, Diane Brittingham of Avondale, PA; her two step sons, James (Pam) Decker, Jr. of West Grove, PA and Michael (Beth) Decker of Landenberg, PA. Shirley will be dearly missed by her many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Due to the pandemic, services for Shirley will be held privately with family.
