Suzanne Edgar Obituary

Age 70
Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt and Friend

With great sadness, the family of Suzanne Barber Edgar announces her passing on July 30, 2018, at the age of 70, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Suzanne will be dearly missed and always remembered by her husband of 50 years, Clee Edgar; daughter, Kde Edgar Mayes (Steve); grandson Cooper Mayes; father Donn Barber; brother, George Barber (Cindy) and niece Abby Barber, brother Donn Barber Jr.; and sister Heather Barber (Jean).

A long-time resident of Kennett Square, PA, she graduated from Kennett High School, Southern Seminary Jr. College and attended West Chester University. During the 70s Suzanne coached multiple sports at Upland Country Day School and remained loyal to the school throughout Clee’s career at Upland and beyond.

After returning from three years in Japan at the American School in Japan, Suzanne worked at Everything but the Kitchen Sink in Hockessin, DE for 38 years and was manager of the store for 35 years. Her vision, creativity, and artistry were evidenced in the beautiful and whimsical displays at the “shop”. Images of piglets and flamingos often abound in her creations. Suzanne and Clee’s home reflected the same whimsical, yet elegant feeling. In her career at The Kitchen Sink, she helped build the business, while creating a work environment and culture of teamwork, playfulness, and commitment, something not often seen in retail operations. She loved her team and her customers – they all became her friends.

Suzanne’s creativity and vision extended to her gardens, where she spent many happy days with Clee creating a beautiful and welcoming setting.

Suzanne and Clee loved to travel with friends and over the past several years completed trips to London, Russia, Croatia…however, it was the art and culture of Venice that stole her heart. She and Clee had hoped to return there for an extended time.

Suzanne’s great loves were her husband, Clee, her daughter, Kde, husband Steve, especially grandson Cooper, and her family. However, her friends were a close second. She was a fiercely loyal friend who was happy to share laughter and tears, support and direction, and was always game for a day of shopping or cookie baking, or dinner and drinks with the girls.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am, on Friday, August 3 at the Episcopal Church of the Advent, 401 N. Union Street, Kennett Square, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts in honor of Suzanne be directed to one of two sources: John Hopkins Cancer Center to support cancer research initiatives and Neighborhood Hospice who provided extraordinary care in Suzanne’s final days.
