Thomas A. Egan, age 83, of East Bradford Township, passed away at his residence on the morning of January 5, 2026. He was the husband of Lois (Deckman) Egan with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. Born October 3, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late Thomas A. and Amelia (Kantz) Egan.
Tom and Lois moved into East Bradford Township in the early 70's and after living in the township for a few years Tom decided to become involved in local government, starting a lifetime of service to his community. He was appointed to the Planning Commission and served until 1990. In 1987 he ran a successful campaign to become a Township Supervisor starting in 1988 and serving until 2017 when he retired. During his tenure he put the community first in his decision making and by doing so he established the widely recognized, successful open space preservation program, a first in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and a model for many other municipalities. His commitment to the township set the foundation of a legacy that residents of East Bradford Township will be grateful for, for years to come. He also put the employees first by establishing many of the benefits that are available to them today, allowing the township to attract some of the best employees to the positions available, allowing the township to run smoothly. Even after retirement Tom continued to volunteer at the Trail Blazer Run and serve as the Vacancy Board member at large.
Tom was supportive of the Historical Commission's review and amendment of the Historic Preservation Ordinance to strengthen the protection of historic resources in East Bradford.
Tom also supported the Historic Resource Inventory Project that documented over 200 historic properties in East Bradford. The innovative project received a Preservation Award from the Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia.
Besides his passion for the community of East Bradford Township, Tom was also a lifelong educator. He graduated from West Chester University in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Chemistry, and a Master’s in Mathematics. He also earned his Doctorate in Evaluation, Measurement, and Experimental Design from University of Pennsylvania. Tom was a recipient of West Chester University’s Distinguished Alumni Award and the Life-long Achievement Award in Information Technology. He also received a Certificate of Excellence and recognition as a “Distinguished Teaching Chair” from the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
Tom served as the Executive Director for West Chester University’s Business Technology Center from 1989 until July of 2006. Here, he assisted multiple companies in successfully bringing products to market and helped many others use IT to improve their bottom line. From 1990 to 2006, Tom also served as the President, CEO, Principal and Co-founder of Elementum, Inc., a professional services firm with expertise in IT strategic consulting, digital networks, and more. From August of 2006 to June 2013 Tom held the position of Chief Information Officer for Immaculata University. Following this, from August of 2013 until his retirement he worked for Arcadia University in various positions. At the time of his retirement, Tom acted as the Program Manager for Hybrid Education where he offered overall guidance for the University’s College of Health Sciences Hybrid Education Programs.
Outside of work, Tom enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He spent his free time in the great outdoors-fishing, boating, and hiking. A perfect day for him would have ended with a book in hand, a good steak, and a glass of scotch.
In addition to his wife, Lois, Thomas is survived by his children; Amanda Wynne (Kane) Egan of Lewes, DE and Thomas Andrew (Daria) Egan of Newlin Township, Pennsylvania, and 5 grandchildren; Aidan, Sophie, Thomas, Luke, and Livia.
Besides his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Egan.
