Diane Thompson

May 13, 1947 - July 5, 2021 Kennett Square, PA | Age 74 Loving Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Cousin and Friend.

DIANE THOMPSON, age 74, of Kennett Square, PA, passed away on Monday, July 5, 2021, at Season’s Hospice at Christiana Hospital. She was the wife of Robert “Bobby” M. Thompson, Jr., who passed away in 2008, and with whom she shared 42 years of marriage.

Born in Wilmington, DE, she was the daughter of the late Troy Shupe, Jr. and the late Jean Hoosier Church.

Diane was a homemaker, but in earlier years she worked as a hairdresser.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kennett Square, PA.

She enjoyed going out to dinner with friends, shopping with her daughters, trips to the hairdresser and nail salon, and countless vacations with her family. She was known for being the organizer of all holiday gatherings and traditions and also the one to set up countless dates with her cousins to enjoy live music and delicious food. She never ended a day without calling her two daughter to say, “I love you and goodnight.”
Her grandchildren meant the world to her. She never missed an event and was their loudest cheerleader from the sideline. The minute she met someone they immediately had a connection and from then on they called her MomMom.

Diane is survived by two daughters, Michelle Hughes and her husband Larry of Hockessin, DE and Christine DiUbaldo and her husband Domenic of Hockessin, DE; one sister, Susan Wolfe of Newark, DE, and five grandchildren, Brandon, Zachary, Sophia, Domenic, and Joey.

  6. What a nice, friendly & sweet person. I have always referred to Diane as Donna’s (Shupe) cousin and knew her through their family. Whenever I was in her company or just ran into her somewhere she would stop to have a chat. She always had that “polished” look and I am sure that between her beautiful eyes and her halo Heaven has gained a pretty Angel. Warm thoughts to all the family.

  7. I am so sorry to hear about Diane. She had a delightful sense of humor! I can still hear her laughter the day we were in my office chatting & my necklace broke. We laughed until we cried while on our hands & knees trying to retrieve all the beads. From that day forward she would always great me with “Hello, Miss Beads.” Then we would both laugh remembering the story that inspired my nickname.
May you find comfort in the wonderful memories that you have of this special lady!
    God bless you all!

  14. So sorry for all of you. I got to know Diane thru working as Dr T. Linton Mercer’s nurse. I would go to her house and she would do my hair often. She passed down her daughters’s clothes to my daughter who was younger. Her conversation always included her “Bobby” We shared many stories about our girls.
She loved her “Bobby “and her daughters, Michelle and Christine.

  16. Diane was an endless good time..Quite the character, as everyone knows..She was a loyal mom, mom- mom, friend..Such a tragic end, as she was full of life..When it snowed, Diane had me stay at her house after work..She called it “Camp Thompson” and always had a Hershey bar and a movie for me. No end to my memories. LOVE YOU.
